Regimental
Advisors are specialists who, through their expertise and unique abilities,
provide Imperial Guard commanders with a tactical edge on the battlefield. The
Master of Ordnance provides the ‘eyes on the battlefield’ for the regiment’s
artillery, coordinating artillery bombardments with deadly accuracy. The
Officer of the Fleet serves as a liaison between the Imperial Navy and the
Guard, coordinating aerial strikes via Valkyrie carriers and Marauder bombers.
Astropaths are Sanctioned Psykers, who ‘see what others cannot see’, allowing
Imperial commanders the ability to locate ‘unseen’ enemies.

I
painted the Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum Regimental Advisors set, which
includes: The Master of Ordnance, the Officer of the Fleet and an Astropath. Each of these advisors performs a distinct function
in the regiment; therefore, I selected colour patterns that reflects these
unique roles.
Master
of Ordnance: I painted the Master of Ordnance in a desert
colour scheme, using a tri-colour desert camouflage pattern for the officer’s
combat fatigues (I used this same camo pattern for the Armageddon Steel Legion). I used a dark olive green as the primary
colour for the carapace body armour, with the Aquila and heraldry on the armour
highlighted in a metallic bronze.
Officer
of the Fleet: I selected greys and blues as the primary
colours for the Officer of the Fleet’s uniform, as I felt these colours captures
the noble bearing and authority of a senior naval officer.
Astropath: I
selected purple as the primary colour for the Astropath, as I felt this colour captures
the mysticism and eccentricity of a Sanctioned Psyker. That is, according to colour theory, the
colour purple is associated with the sacred, magic, the third-eye and mystery.
In a
future post, I plan on created file cards, similar to the ones created for
Colonel Schaeffer’s Last Chancers, for the Regimental Advisors.
Old Guard: An Astra Militarum/Imperial Guard Fan Site is a website dedicated to
Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40K miniatures, with a focus on the classic range of
Imperial Guard models from the 1990s.
