Warhammer 40K: Urdeshi Heavy (Storm-Troops)

Inspired by Dan Abnett’s Gaunt’s Ghost series, I painted a five-man team of Urdeshi Heavy troopers.  The fortress world of Urdesh is mentioned throughout the series; in earlier novels, Urdesh is occupied by the forces of Chaos, where its vital forge facilities are used to provide armoured fighting vehicles (STeG 4) and tanks (AT70 Reaver and AT83 Brigade Super Tank) to the Chaos cult armies.  The ‘Ghosts’ first face these armoured units in the ‘Honour Guard’; the fourth novel in the series.

In the fourteenth (The Warmaster) and the fifteenth (Anarch) novel, Urdesh becomes the central setting for the series.  At this point, Urdesh has been liberated and is under the control of the Imperium; in fact, Warmaster Macaroth and his high command are situated in Urdesh.  In the books, the Urdeshi regiments are described as wearing black-and-white puzzle-pattern camouflage.
