1/72 scale (20mm) SU-85 Tank Destroyers Part 2 (Armourfast)

Technical Data Card: SU-85

The SU-85 (Samohodnaya Ustanovka 85) was a self-propelled gun named after the vehicle’s weapon: The 85 mm D-5S anti-tank gun.  The SU-85 was built on the chassis of the T-34 tank.  In the Red Army, self-propelled guns were either designed to serve as assault guns or tank destroyers; the SU-85 was designed as a tank destroyer capable of penetrating the thick armour of the German Panther and Tiger tanks.  Some 2,050 SU-85s were built between 1943 to 1944.

Armourfast produces a 1/72 scale (20 mm) hard plastic SU-85 Self-Propelled Gun kit, which includes the components for two SU-85s.

As a way of making each SU-85 look unique, I added Russian tank riders to one of the self-propelled guns.  The tank riders are produced by HaT Toy Soldiers.  As well, I painted popular Soviet tank slogans on the sides of the SU-85s.

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 World War 2 Model Site

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site is devoted to the hobby of painting and collecting World War 2 models/miniatures.  It is my hope, through creating this website, to honour the men and women who served in the Second World War, whose sacrifices and courage have given us the freedom and quality of life we have today.
