In an earlier post, I built and painted Italeri’s 1/72 scale (20mm) Berlin House, which is part of the Battle of Berlin battle set (the Berlin House is also sold separately). I have built and painted a second Berlin House, which is the focus of this post.
The Berlin House is a hard plastic kit, which allows you to build a two-storey battle damaged building. The model itself is comprised of the following components:
- 3x floor sprues
- 2x main floor wall sprues
- 2x second floor wall sprues
- 2x roof wall sprues
Floor sprue (x3)
Main floor walls sprue (x2)
Second floor walls sprue (x2)
Roof walls sprue (x2)
For the second Berlin House, I wanted a colour pattern that would make both houses look distinct, yet, at the same time, I wanted both houses to share the worn and damaged look of buildings after days of heavy fighting. Thus, I choose grey as the primary colour for the building (grey is a colour associated with gloom and depression). Blue was used as the secondary colour to show the once regal nature of the building. However, washes of watered down black ink were applied over the model to emphasis the building’s battle worn appearance.
