1/72 scale (20mm) KV-1S Heavy Tank (Pegasus Hobbies)

Technical Data Card: KV-1S Heavy Tank

The Kliment Voroshilov (KV) heavy tank series, named after Soviet Commissar Kliment Voroshilov, first entered service in 1939.  When the Germans first encountered KV tanks on the battlefield in 1941 (Operation Barbarossa), they were horrified to discover the KV’s thick armour was resistant to all of their tank-mounted weapons.  The Germans nicknamed the KV tanks the 'Russian Colossus’ (German: Russischer Koloss) and developed more powerful anti-tank guns and heavier tanks to deal with this threat.  Designed as a way of improving the speed and mobility of the KV heavy tank, the KV-1S was built with thinner armour and a smaller turret, while retaining the 76.2 mm ZiS-5 tank gun.

Pegasus Hobbies produces a 1/72 scale KV-1S Heavy Tank kit, containing two KV-1S tanks. The models are cast in hard plastic and each tank is comprised of 36 parts.

I assembled and painting the two KV-1S heavy tanks and applied decals to the models.  The decals are produced by Italeri and were included in their ‘fast assembly’ 1/72 model range.

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 Scale World War 2 Model Site

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site is devoted to the hobby of painting and collecting World War 2 models/miniatures.  It is my hope, through creating this website, to honour the men and women who served in the Second World War, whose sacrifices and courage have given us the freedom and quality of life we have today.
