The Jagdpanther, one of most iconic tank destroyers of the Second War World, combined the powerful 88 mm PaK 43 gun with the chassis of the Panther tank. The Jagdpanther G2 was the second of two versions of Jagdpanther produced, which was characterized by an externally bolted gun mantlet, a two-piece KwK 43/4 L/71 gun and a Panther Ausf. G engine deck. By the end of the war, some 415 Jagdpanther G1s and G2s were produced.
S-Model produces a 1/72 scale (20 mm) hard plastic Jagdpanther Tank Destroyer G2 model kit, which includes the components for two Jagdpanthers.
I built and painted both Jagdpanthers and added a Plastic Soldier Company German tank commander to one of the Jagdpanthers, to identify this tank destroyer as the platoon commander’s Jagdpanther. As well, I applied decals produced by Italeri to the models, which identifies the company and platoon the tank destroyers belong to. The Jagdpanthers belong to the Tank Battalion’s 1st company (identified by the first digit), 3rd platoon (identified by the second digit). Jagdpanther 131 is the first tank destroyer in the platoon, which is operated by the platoon commander; Jagdpanther 132 is the second tank destroyer in the platoon.
