1/72 scale (20mm) KV-1 (M1942) Heavy Tank: Pegasus Hobbies

Technical Data Card KV-1 M1942 Heavy Tank

The Kliment Voroshilov (KV) heavy tank series, named after Soviet Commissar Kliment Voroshilov, first entered service in 1939.  When the Germans first encountered KV tanks on the battlefield in 1941 (Operation Barbarossa), they were horrified to discover the KV’s thick armour was resistant to all of their tank-mounted weapons.  The Germans nicknamed the KV tanks the 'Russian Colossus’ (German: Russischer Koloss) and developed more powerful anti-tank guns and heavier tanks to deal with this threat.  The KV-1 Model 1942 featured improved armour, sacrificing speed for better armour protection.  The Model 1942 came equipped with either a fully cast turret or a welded turret.

Pegasus Hobbies produces a 1/72 scale KV-1 (Model 1942) Heavy Tank kit, containing two KV-1 (M1942) heavy tanks. This model set provides options for building either the welded turret or the fully cast turret versions of the KV-1 (M1942).  The models are cast in hard plastic and each tank is made up of 44 parts.

Since this kit provides options for building both the welded turret and the fully cast turret versions of the tank, I decided to build both versions of the KV-1 (M1942).  For the welded turret model, I painted popular World War 2 Soviet tank slogans on the sides of the turret.  For the fully cast turret model, I applied decals to the turret.  The decals are produced by Italeri

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 Scale World War 2 Model Site

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site is devoted to the hobby of painting and collecting World War 2 models/miniatures.  It is my hope, through creating this website, to honour the men and women who served in the Second World War, whose sacrifices and courage have given us the freedom and quality of life we have today.
