Introduced in October 1943, the IS-2 Heavy Tank was designed as a ‘breakthrough tank’, forming the spearhead of an armoured assault. The tank adopted the anglicized initials of the Leader of the Soviet Union: Iosif Stalin (Joseph Stalin). The IS-2 was armed with a massive 122 mm gun, designed to penetrate the armour of the German Panther and Tiger tanks.
Pegasus Hobbies produces a 1/72 scale IS-2 Heavy Tank kit, containing two IS-2 tanks. The models are cast in hard plastic and each tank is comprised of 44 parts.
I assembled and painting the two IS-2 heavy tanks and painted white air recognition markings on the turrets. As well, I applied decals (the numbers on the sides of the turrets) to the models; the decals are from the Italeri 1/72 scale IS-2 Heavy Tank ‘fast assembly’ model kit.
The images below are found in the Russian Armour I section of Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site.
Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site is devoted to the hobby of painting and collecting World War 2 models/miniatures. It is my hope, through creating this website, to honour the men and women who served in the Second World War, whose sacrifices and courage have given us the freedom and quality of life we have today.
