In July 1944, the 1st Canadian Army had a shortage of M3 Half-track APCs, while an overabundance of M7 Priest self-propelled guns. In order to provide better protection for the infantry and to increase mobility, a decision was made to convert many of the existing M7 Priests into Armoured Personal Carriers (APCs). The 105 mm howitzers and ammunition stowage units were removed from the M7 Priests, allowing the vehicles to carry more passengers. These ‘defrocked’ Priests were renamed the Kangaroo.
The STL files for the Priest Kangaroo Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) were downloaded from MarkeBot’s Thingiverse and this model was designed by WindhamGraves. I used a Creality Ender Pro 3 to print the Kangaroo.
I printed a single Kangaroo APC and added extra Plastic Soldier Company (PSC) British/Commonwealth model bits to the Kangaroo to represent the APC’s crew. The PSC bits are from the British/Commonwealth infantry and the M5 half-track sets. I painted this model with the marking of The Algonquin Regiment; one of the infantry regiments that made up the infantry component (10th Canadian Infantry Brigade) of the 4th Canadian Armoured Division.
The images below are found in the Canadian Armoured I section of Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site.
Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site is devoted to the hobby of painting and collecting World War 2 models/miniatures. It is my hope, through creating this website, to honour the men and women who served in the Second World War, whose sacrifices and courage have given us the freedom and quality of life we have today.
