The Sexton was a Canadian built self-propelled gun that mounted the Ordinance QF 25-pounder gun on the chassis of either the Canadian-made Ram (Mk I) or Grizzly (Mk II) tanks. While the American-made M7 Priest used the 105mm howitzer, the standard caliber for the field guns and howitzers for the British/Commonwealth militaries was the QF 25-pounder. Thus, Britain wanted a self-propelled gun that used the QF 25-pounder and requested the M7 Priest be configured to support this gun. With delays in converting the M7 Priest to support 25-pounder, Britain turned to Canada to produce these vehicles. From 1943 to 1945, Montreal Locomotive Works produced 2,150 Sextons, which were used by the British and Canadian militaries.
The STL files for the Sexton Mk II Self-Propelled Guns were downloaded from MarkeBot’s Thingiverse and designed by m_bergman. I used a Creality Ender Pro 3 to print these models.
I 3D printed two different Sexton Mk II models and added components from The Plastic Soldier Company’s British/Commonwealth Ordnance QF 25-Pounder kit to represent the crew for one of the self-propelled guns. I added Allied Star decals to the Sextons and painted the models with the markings of the 23rd Field Regiment (SP), Royal Canadian Artillery. The 23rd Field Regiment was a self-propelled gun regiment and was part of the divisional artillery for the 4th Canadian Armoured Division during the Second World War.

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site is devoted to the hobby of painting and collecting World War 2 models/miniatures. It is my hope, through creating this website, to honour the men and women who served in the Second World War, whose sacrifices and courage have given us the freedom and quality of life we have today.
