The Sherman M4A2 (named the Sherman III in Britain and the Commonwealth) is the diesel engine (General Motors 6046 twin inline diesel engine) variant of the Sherman M4 tank.  Most Sherman M4A2s were exported to Allied Nations under the Lend-Lease program.  Britain, the Commonwealth, and the Soviet Union received large numbers of M4A2s under the Lend-Lease program.

Italeri produces a ‘fast assembly’ Sherman III (Sherman M4A2) model kit.  The kit includes a sheet of decals and allows you to build two Sherman III tanks.

I built one of the M4A2s as a Canadian Sherman III from Squadron A of The Governor General’s Foot Guard, an Armoured Regiment in the 4th Canadian Armoured Division.  I added resin sandbags to the front of the Sherman, logs to the sides and stowage components to the back.  These resin pieces are produced by Value Gear.

I built the second Sherman as a Russian Lend-Lease tank.  I added a trio of Russian tank riders, produced by HaT Toy Soldiers, to the Sherman.  As well, I painted common Soviet tank slogans on the sides of the tank and applied Red Army tank decals to the turret.  The decal’s came from Italeri’s T-34/85 set.

Emcha.  The Russians referred to the Lend-Lease Sherman M4s as ‘Emcha’.  ‘Em’ is the phonetic pronunciation of the letter M and the number 4 looks like the Russian letter for ‘cha’.

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale ww2 model site

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site is devoted to the hobby of painting and collecting World War 2 models/miniatures.  It is my hope, through creating this website, to honour the men and women who served in the Second World War, whose sacrifices and courage have given us the freedom and quality of life we have today.
