When the Sd.Kfz. 231 (8-Rad) Schwere Panzerspähwagen (heavy reconnaissance armoured car) first entered service in 1937, it was considered the world’s most advanced armoured car. The Sd.Kfz. 231 (8-Rad) was a redesign of the Sd.Kfz. 231 (6-Rad), the six wheeled version of this vehicle. Sd.Kfz. 231 (8-Rad) was designed with an enclosed revolving turret housing a 20 mm KwK 30 L/55 and a 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun. A total of 1,235 Sd.Kfz. 231 (8-Rad) armoured cars had been produced when the production of this vehicle ended in 1942.
First to Fight, a Polish based 1/72 model and wargaming company, produces a series of early World War 2 Polish and German hard plastic military models. Among the models produced is a Sd.Kfz. 231 (8-Rad) model kit.
I built and painted the Sd.Kfz. 231 (8-Rad) in a late war colour pattern. I used Dunkelgelb (dark yellow) as the base colour for the vehicle (Dunkelgelb became the official base colour for German vehicles in February 1943; vehicles in the field were repainted when paint and time were available). Afterwards, I applied one of the common German camouflage patterns to the Sd.Kfz. 231 (8-Rad).

Citizen Soldiers: A 1/72 scale World War 2 Model Site is devoted to the hobby of painting and collecting World War 2 models/miniatures. It is my hope, through creating this website, to honour the men and women who served in the Second World War, whose sacrifices and courage have given us the freedom and quality of life we have today.
