Penal Legion (Astra Militarum/Imperial Guard): Part 2

Penal Legions are formed throughout the Imperium to deal with overcrowded prisons and the need for bodies on the battlefield. Murderers, psychopaths, thieves and petty criminals are grouped together into Penal regiments, where they are sent to the frontlines to be used as expendable shock troopers.

I recent painted five Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) Penal Legion troopers, using ‘old school’ metal Catachan Jungle Fighters.  The metal Catachan Jungle Fighters were introduced in 1994, when Games Workshop released a series of world themed Imperial Guard regiments, replacing the generic Rogue Trader era Imperial Guard models.

For more images of these miniatures, please visit the Penal Legion section of the Old Guard; a website dedicated to Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40K miniatures, with a focus on the classic range of Imperial Guard models from the 1990s.
