The Plastic Soldier Company produces a 1/72 scale (20mm) set of World War 2 Russian Infantry in Summer Uniforms. The set includes three hard plastic sprues, with each sprue containing 19 miniatures (57 miniatures in total). In an earlier post, I painted two of the three sprues. I recently finished painting the remaining sprue consisting of the following miniatures:
- 7 soldiers with Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifles
- 5 soldiers with PPSH-41 submachine guns (one soldier is throwing a grenade while holding the gun in his left hand)
- 1 DP-27 (Degtyaryov) light machine gun team (2 soldier team)
- 1 soldier carrying a DP-27 machine gun over his shoulder
- 1 kneeling NCO pointing and holding a pistol
- 1 Commissar (Political Officer)
- 1 female soldier with a bag (medic?)
- 1 unarmed soldier holding a bag (messenger?).

While I based the previous batch Russian Infantry miniatures on larger rectangular bases, with two to five figures per base (with the exception of one of the commissar models), I based this group of miniatures on individual round bases (with the exception of the DP-27 machine gun team). I used either round 20mm or 25mm bases depending on the ‘footprint’ of the miniature (the kneeling figures typically required the larger 25 mm bases).

I paid $24 Canadian dollars for this box set, which works out to 40 cents Canadian per miniature (for someone used to painting in the 28/32mm scale, 40 cents per figure is impressive). I really liked this set, in particular the variety of poses and diversity of figures (a commissar and a female soldier) found in this set. The photos below contain some of the previous Russian Infantry miniatures I painted.
