The Plastic Soldier Company produces a 1/72 scale (20mm) set of World War 2 Russian Infantry in Summer Uniforms. The figures are highly detailed and cast in hard plastic. The box set contain three sprues of 19 figures (57 figures in total); each sprue contains the following miniatures:
- 7 soldiers with Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifles
- 5 soldiers with PPSH-41 submachine guns (one soldier is throwing a grenade while holding the gun in his left hand)
- 2 soldiers with DP-27 (Degtyaryov) light machine guns (one soldier is prone and the other is carrying the gun over his shoulder)
- A prone ammo loader for the DP-27 machine gun
- A kneeling NCO pointing and holding a pistol
- A Commissar (Political Officer)
- A female soldier with a bag (medic?)
- An unarmed soldier holding a bag (medic/messenger?).

I painted two of the three sprues of Russian Infantry and based the figures on 15mm Plastics Soldiers Company bases (the bases were sold separately).
I was impressed with the quality and diversity of the Russian Infantry set; I liked how a female figure was included. Some 800,000 women severed in the Russian military during the Second World War (3% of the military population); while most women served as medical personnel, several women served in-frontline combat roles as pilots, snipers, tank crews and machine gunners. For instance, some 2,484 female snipers served in the Red Army between 1941 to 1945, with 500 or so surviving the war (Wikipedia). As well, the Commissar (Political Officer) was a great touch, capturing the discipline and feel of the World War 2 Russian Infantry.
