Armed with
handcrafted weapons passed down through the generations, the Vostroyan
Firstborn hail from the Industrial Hive World of Vostroya. To atone for a sin
committed during the Horus Heresy, every Vostroyan family must pledge their
firstborn son to serve in the Imperial Guard. It is common for family ties to
exist in Vostroyan regiments; it is typical for cousins to serve together, and
for new recruits to be mentored by their older battle hardened relatives.

I finished
painting five Vostroyan Firstborn miniatures, which represents half of an
infantry squad. The miniatures include a
Vostroyan Sergeant, a flame trooper and three guardsmen with lasguns. While I like the default red colour pattern of
the Vistroyan Firstborn uniforms, I wanted to give my miniatures a unique look;
yet, I still wanted to capture the regal look of the Vistroyan Firstborn. I choose the colour purple for these
miniatures as, according to colour theory, purple is associated with royalty, grandeur
and nobility. For instance, in medieval England,
purple dyes were expensive to produce and were worn exclusively by the Royal Family.

miniatures, with a focus on the classic range of Imperial Guard models from the
1990s.
