With a digital pen, a drawing tablet and Photoshop, I illustrated some artwork for the upcoming Dungeon Crawl Classics Eastern Adventures source book and the book’s companion website (Dungeon Crawl Classics Eastern Adventures Redux). This source book will build on the DCC Eastern Adventures campaign guide I wrote back in 2017, which is available on the DCC Eastern Adventures website. The artwork features a mighty Eastern Ogre battling a party of Adventurers. The ogre grips a hapless adventurer in one hand and wields a brutal tetsubo (weapon) in the other; a Sohei (Cleric) and a Koropokuru (Eastern Dwarf) battles this mighty foe.
Cover Art. For the book, I have designed a full cover (front and back) art piece. The frontside (right half) of the book features a battle between the Ogre and the adventures, with the Ogre being the focal point for the cover. The backside (left half) features the fallen party members with a statue of a meditating demon in the background.
Website’s Logo. Most of my previous websites feature a logo specific to that site. The logo for Dungeon Crawl Classics Eastern Adventures Redux features the conical-style war helmet (Jingasa) of the peasant foot soldier (Ashigaru), with a Mon (clan crest) of a Maple Leaf illustrated on the helmet. The maple leaf represents my Canadian heritages (maple leaves are features on many of my other website logos).
Website Background Art. I used the same illustrations for the background of the website as was used for the book’s cover; however, the illustrations are arranged in a different pattern. The rationale for rearranging the illustrations is that people view websites from left to right; thus, the background’s focal point (ogre) and the actions (adventurers battling the ogre) are depicted on the left half of the background.
